Conservation Week 2016

Since it was Conservation Week, we did a padlet based on what we already knew. Then we learnt what it meant so we were told to get into groups and then create a presentation. I was working with Mikayla and Maranita. After we did a new padlet of what we have learnt. We all enjoyed making this and hope you enjoy.

Kate Sheppard writing

I have been writing a story about Kate Sheppard about protest to enter an Elsie Locke writing competition
writing this story was hard and fun work. I enjoyed writing this piece of writing so I hope you enjoyed reading this. I think my next goal should be making it a bit more descriptive.

I’ve tasted awful defeat maybe a thousand times for what I am doing now which makes my mind burst. I’m still collecting signatures. As of now I see people staring at me and I can’t find out if it’s in a good way or a bad way. I still don’t want to give up! I want to fight for women’s rights!  I sighed as I walked back home, my face down, wondering if this will be enough.  I thought for a moment. No, my goal is to reach higher than ever before!

Once home I started thinking of what I could do which made my mind break into pieces. I need to gather more people I thought. I will try next thing in the morning, but for now I’m going to start writing a speech. I mean people say I’m a good speaker, but I’m not so sure. That’s when my sister Isabella May came in.

The morning sun rose as I woke and went to get ready to start a new day. I put on my favourite white lacy dress. As I saw Isabella I shouted her name. I explained to her that we will both start collecting signatures in different areas from each other. It was great that we had Sir John Hall a leading member of Parliament to support us. As I was collecting signatures I practiced the speech again and again in my head, checking over and over  to make sure there were no mistakes and trying to improve it. As the sun slowly and gently went down behind the horizon our day had came to an end. I settled in my bed hoping this time we will have success. The next day we started counting how many signatures we had because we only had until the scheduled date tomorrow to present our petition to parliament to approve women’s rights . When we counted them all we nearly had 32,000 signatures! I couldn’t believe it. Too good to be true I thought.  I had Isabella help me with my speech as I was almost finished.
As dawn hit I was scared to face the day.
“C'mon let's go there’s no need to wait or we will be late”, Isabella said with a smile on her face.
“You're right”, I answered.
When we got to Parliament it seemed like I was glued to the spot. Isabella snapped me out of it making me walk on my own.
When we had got inside there was a chair waiting for me to sit on it. It was time to present my speech for women’s rights. I stood up and started talking. When I finished I stated that we had nearly 32,000 signatures. They had to say yes they had no choice. When I realized that I was so happy. All those mistakes and we finally achieved our goal. Now women can vote in New Zealand.

Oscar Romero

Oscar Romero was the fourth archbishop of San Salvador. He spoke out against poverty, social injustice, assassinations and torture. His place of birth is Ciudad Barrios, El Salvador and he was born on August 15, 1917. His parents were Guadalupe de Jésus Galdámez, Santos Romero. Oscar Romero and his family were Roman Catholic. In 1930 a mass opened his mind and he was talking about being a priest at the age of 13. On the next part of his training he was sent to Rome and returned in 1943 as a priest at the age of 26 years old. His passion for speaking up for the poor was formed when his friend, Rutilio Grande, was murdered. Oscar Romero helped the poor by speaking and fighting for them and those who died and he did as much as could until he died. Romero knew that he was going to die, but he did it for the people. He made the government angry with him as he tried to speak out for those people by putting his voice on the radio and sending the Christian message of peace. Oscar Romero was assassinated during mass on March 24th 1980. He was assassinated because the government wanted him to stop sending the message of peace. It is believed that those who organised the assassination were Salvador death squads. 35 years after Oscar Romero was assassinated he was beatified by Pope Francis. My Book Review: Nightmare Academy

Rendered Image
Title: Nightmare Academy Charlie’s Monsters
Author: Dean Lorey
Setting: Nightmare Academy for those who have the gift.
Characters: Charlie, Mr Benjamin, Rex, Tabitha, Violet, Theodore, Pinch, Ogla, Reginald Drake, Director, Bar
akkas, Headmaster and Housemama Rose the characters are the ones that make this story alive.
It’s about a boy named Charlie who has the gift and he could open a portal for a stage 5 monster without going to Nightmare Academy.
He went to Nightmare Academy to stop opening a portal for a monster to come while he’s sleeping and to learn more about the gift he has and will now help getting the monsters back to where they're supposed to be.
It’s a story that makes pictures in my mind and seeing it how it is said and a really intriguing fascinating story.
even looking at the cover and title it looks interesting. It’s a really stunning book and I suggest you try reading it some time.
On the back of the book it says:
Your parents lied.
There ARE monsters under your bed.
Things DO go bump in the night.
But don’t worry.
At the Nightmare Academy…

we bump back.

What I enjoyed about it was how interesting it is and I liked the idea of the Nightmare academy and I like the Mimics and also how they smell like cinnamon. I think it is suitable for 9 year olds and older and my rating is 8 out of 10.

The Good Samaritan narrative

The Good Samaritan
The sun is hot, the man asks what must I do to have eternal life?
You must seek your neighbor who will then reward you God replies.
Woosh! said the wind. Then the man could see a couple of strangers come close to him. They suddenly start to beat him and strip him of most of his clothes.
He could taste blood.
People just walk past. He wonders what did God mean?
A man came up to him, but it is a Samaritan. The beaten man wonders what things would he do to him? The Samaritan picks him up. The Samaritan can feel the blood from his body. He carries the man off the road. The man is confused. Out of all the people that walked past the one to help him is a Samaritan. The Samaritan gives him a drink and heals him. The Samaritan suddenly left. He is as quiet as water. He finally understands what God meant. He felt loved.
